Friday 2nd June – Bike ***** Ewhurst to Guildford – sunny periods

We spent the morning in Rob’s flat then around lunch time we packed a picnic and started cycling from Sayers Croft to Guildford along the old railway track which runs all the way once you get to Cranleigh. We were just going down the hill into town when the phone rang and Rob said they were probably coming home from hospital later so we carried on with our bike ride of 9 miles to Guildford but instead of going up the hill to the hospital we used Debenhams on the river as a roundabout and went back along the river to St. Catherine’s lock and ate our lunch. We did have a few spots of rain there but not much – thank goodness! We saw 3 boats go through and I helped one man on his own with the lock gates – I had been itching to do that :)The other two were day narrow boats and one was a woman celebrating her 60th birthday in style:) The phone rang again and it was Rob saying they were coming home but needed a few things so we biked back (a long slog especially the up-hill bit back to Ewhurst) We did over 20 miles so that’s over 40 in two days!! We collected up the things we needed and drove into Guildford, parked at the big Tesco and went into the hospital. There was a lot to do before Hannah was released so we sat on her bed, chatted and cuddled Arlo for nearly 3 hours but then realised our 3-hour car park at Tesco was nearly up so left, helping Rob to take some stuff to the car park and watched him fit the amazing car seat! We returned to Cranleigh, picked up extremely expensive fish and chips from an extremely grumpy man (and its Fish and Chip day apparently) and went back to Sayers Croft to eat them and fall into bed! The new family got home from hospital at 10.45!
